Thru Axle too long?

Hi,

Just picked up a new disc brake Tarmac SL6. The rear DT Swiss rear 12mm thru axle is protruding a few mm out of the drive side. I haven’t seen this before.

How could it be too long?

    LBS has used a mountain bike "boost" 148mm skewer instead of road bike 142mm, if we are talking about the rear wheel?

    On my Cube, the end of the rear 142TA skewer comes out by ~2mm tops.

    Mine protrudes about 1-2mm. I'm guessing if you had the wrong size it would protrude more.

    Mine are flush on Trek Emonda. Is there a washer missing?
