Evening All,

I'm after some advice regarding the difference between the 3 different Hunt wheels listed in the title. Aside from the obvious weight/price/dimensional differences I wonder if anyone would wholly recommend one over the others. Looking to switch out my stock Fulcrum 77 Racing wheels for a set of these.

Mostly use the bike for commuting which is between 45 and 65 miles 3 times per week and some longer rides on the weekend anything up to 60 miles.

Cheers

  • Any reason you're limiting yourself to the same brand?
  • No particular reason. The brand seems to be highly recommended and is within budget but haven't ruled others out if anyone can recommend another wheel above the Hunt for the same price give or take a bit and similar weight gains :)

do a search on here for Hunt wheels - i think you will find the discussions interesting and may well change your purchase for something like Farsport, Carbonzone, Prime, Planet X/Selcof, etc that are all made from the same bits in the same factory by the same people but cost half as much.

These are the same rim as the Hunts but use better spokes and a more reliable hub if you're going to be using the wheels for commuting.

I believe the 4 Season wheels use brass nipples, the others use aluminium nipples. Adds a bit of weight but arguably makes them easier to work on long term in case of damage. Others vary by rim profile. Compare specs on the Hunt website, all the details are there.

Daughter and I have bought four pairs of hunt wheels between us in the last year. Very pleased with all of them. Great service and if you ever need spares (e.g. convert from QR to Thru Axle, etc.) they are very easy to deal with. You can even phone them and talk to a human!

Might be true for their carbon offerings, but imho aluminium ones offer great value for money. I just bought 4 seasons few weeks ago for 299 GBP, I'm very pleased with them so far. I was considering BORGs, but they would cost me quite a bit more, with Hunt offering free world wide shipping plus all adapters (i needed centerlock to 6 bolt ) included in price.

I had 2 sets of Hunt wheels - both circa 2016. 4 Season Aero and Race Season Aero Wide.
Apart from the wider rims seating wider tyres better, there was little or no difference when riding them.

I have Hunt Aeros on the "2nd" bike. Roll well, robust, easy tubeless setup and have the noisiest freehub! I really like them. I got mine 'as new' from Ebay so paid a lot less than RRP. That said the guys at Hunt were excellent with an issue converting from QR to thru axel.

I just bought a set of Lightbicycle wheels. Nearly £200 less than Hunts carbon offerings with DT Swiss 240 hubs and sapim CX ray spokes.

    All about choice!
