Thinking, just thinking but the conjecture seems to suggest a TCX or cyclocross bike a tad tall with a high BB for gravel riding? Sold on my Toughroad after 18 months as effectively a Defy in disguise - quite fancy something more agile.

Anyone care to advise.

Swear by my TCX gets used on easy red trails as more XC orientated and also anything below. I have altered the gearing on mine to be a bit easier and will probably alter to 1x at some stage, Very rarely gets used on roads. Only bugbear was i got mech spyre brakes when i had it and had to upgrade to hydraulics eventually. I actually went for a small even though i would normally ride a medium, as it was on offer at a steal and i found it easier to throw around the trails. I tend to run 42 tyres as well.

    Ah cool.

The SLR 1 2019 looks good and took a look at the medium stack and reach good. Glad to know. 2018's SX bike was the one, but they only had it for one season - obviously a non starter.

Googled it, some say ideal others say BB drop a death trap.

Could be a good one bike solution for trails, commuting, fun riding and keeping the Sunday best as that.

You can still get new SXs - Pauls cycles have some in a sale S-ML

Oddly enough, found them last night. Tempting.

Absolutely not, I have a small 2018 TCX and apart from a wheel upgrade the main thing I've done is to fit an 110mm stem and slam it.

I really do enjoy the bike and find it capable it all situations. I rode it on a group road ride last night, 65 miles at an average speed of 17.5 mph with out a problem. On Sunday, out all day riding a recce for this years Three Peaks CX race, I find it massively versatile.
  • Depends on the frame size.

A large TCX has a BB only 5mm higher than a trek boone which has a less aggressive geometry. In a small, however, the tcx bb is 10mm higher.

The tcx also has a higher stack and a longer reach than most cross bikes, and gravel bikes tend to be even less aggressive than these

Sounds like ballcocks to me, might not be the best bike but it will certainly do the job.
