Nylon or aluminium bushes?

I've replaced a few shock bushes in recent times and found a nylon bush in my spares which I fitted to my Rockshox Monarch, just yesterday. I was replacing and original aluminium bottom bush supplied with the bike when it was new. The mount had only slight scuffing on one side so didn't look like I needed to replace that and now everything is tight like brand new.
I just wondered what the general feeling is about bushes. Is one material better than the other?
As a last thought, which might help someone, it's worth a regular check of your pivots. I was left with a tiny amount of play until I tweeked the pivot bolts, which had worked a bit loose.
