Saddle returns?

I’m sure I’ve seen it advertised somewhere by a retailer that you can buy a saddle from them with the option to return it within a month (or somesuch) if you’re not getting on with it, does anyone remember seeing that or know of similar offers?

I ask because my current one is killing my future babies and my local doesn’t have any test saddles(!) nor the option to return... :|

Evans did it, as do some manufacturers (Spesh, Bontrager I think) but you often have to remind the shop staff that it is their policy.

When I did it at Evans I was treated with suspicion and as if I was trying to somehow pull a fast one, they kept reminding me how they lose money and have to sell it as used, though this will obviously vary store to store. I also believe you had to purchase in store rather than online, but it's worth trying to talk to someone first.

Evans do it for complete bikes, so you'd think they'd do it for a saddle

Some manufacturers do it but you have to return the saddle pristine. Over on GCN I saw a hack that someone did where they wrapped the rails in tape and used a plastic bag to put the hang tags in. This was then zip tied to the s-post. Some shops do have test saddles - Trek or Specialized?

Bontrager have a 30 day returns if you're not happy. I was sold a set of their insoles for the highest instep when in reality I needed the set below. Evans exchanged them with no issue.

Quite a few places will allow you to rent out test version of the saddle. Brooks do via their store. Condor in London also do and obviously have a broad range of saddles.
  • PRO also have a good, varied range and offer 30 day wotsit...
  • Thanks for all the info guys, will pop into an Evans next time I’m in London, maybe Condor too, good excuse to eyeball all the lovely bits and bobs on display...
