    Ferries -
    The overnight ferry
    1) has aircraft seats - so if you sleep easy, then they're fine - if not, get a cabin - at least you'll get a few hours horizontal rest.
    2) gets you in very early in Dieppe - you can get your head down for about an hour in the port once landed, but close it once the ferry has departed.

The Avenue Verte is a nice route - we did it in 2 days, self supported - it was quite tiring due to the (low) speed meaning we had a long time in the saddle.
https://www.chambres-confiturier.com/ was where we stopped overnight - and would do the same again

We came back on the EuroStar - we had to book the bikes on - I know they went through a change of what they would/wouldn't do, so not sure where you stand with bikes now....

    Thanks

Plans on hold unfortunately as ive hurt my back. Was planning on a mid july trip as I have a week of work then but not sure now. I have a week off in sept also so if im not 100% by end of the month ill put the trip off until sept.

Pretty much sorted on route and where to do stops now . Just tossing up on whether to get going earlyish from London and catch the earlier ferry and stay the night in Dieppe or the later one and have a longer but more leisurely day 2. Probably the latter.

many thanks for the routes and advise

I did an unsupported L2P via Newhaven a month or so ago in a group of 7 mixed ability cyclists. We did a three day ride:

    1. Surrey to Newhaven (60 miles)
    2. Dieppe to Beauvais (80 miles**)
    3. Beauvais to Paris (50 miles)

We did the afternoon ferry from Newhaven and stayed overnight in Dieppe - it seemed like we would get more sleep that way than overnighting on the ferry*

We used the Avenue Verte to Beauvais** and on the third day we just headed straight for Paris down the back roads. I think that was possibly the best day's cycling.

We stopped in Beauvais because I was organising and I'm lazy. It was far easier to book all three hotels via Accor Hotels so I just stuck to using Ibis Hotels each night. One phonecall and had all seven people booked for 3 nights each with no great problem - much easier than using their website. Also, the Accor loyalty points helped :D

It was a good ride and everyone managed it without too much bother. Day 2 was a bit long (see below**) but otherwise really enjoyable.

One piece of advice... if you are riding down the AV in Neufchatel-en-Bray on Day 2 and fancy stopping for lunch at the former railway station there, be warned that you are likely to be there for 2 hours!

*Having said that, the sleep may have been of better quality had we not got a bit excited on the ferry and drank way too much.

**I had originally planned to use the Avenue Verte route with detours (details can be found on the Donald Hirsch AV website). For a number of reasons, we ended up following the original route that added 10 miles to the journey and a few hills.
You can fool some of the people all of the time. Concentrate on those people.
