Hi All

Just purchased a Giant Propel with Ultegra Di2 (seatpost battery.

This is new territory for me so learning..

I think i am stuck at the very first hurdle...Charging

I have read the PDF and vidoes etc

I am i correct in thinking that this IS charging even though on the PDF it states it might not be, it's a bit ambiguos to be honest -
https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/um/UM-7FJ0A-003-00-ENG.pdf

I seen this video and he states this IS the charging state, orange light constantly ON (one with lightening strike through it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgtibZpSeyM

I have even downloaded the E-TUBE PROJECT software and installed BUT it does not seem to connect?

I get usual 'light tone bing bong' that it's plugged in BUT after two seconds it goes to the 'low tone bing bong' thats it's disconnected??

I also have NO IDEA how to tell if battery is charged or not, i did see on video where it states to hold the right lever/rear mech buttons together and this shows the state, you get varying ones for percentage eg Green solid fully charged, green flashing 75%, not sure of in between levels?, Red sold 0%/flat/Charge battery.

I do get a solid red light for a few seconds when i press this..(there are two leds and one button as well).

Can anyone shed some light or help me here please.

This is the light i have on the SM-BRC2 charger when connected to laptop.

If that light is on then it is charging. I am almost certain it won't charge whilst etube is running though. I just plug mine into the wall using a USB plug from my mobile and the light with the lightning bolt lights solid orange.

It may be that the di2 battery is too low for it to work on the laptop. Leave it plugged into the wall for a few hours to get some charge in. Then press both left and right shifters at the same time to get the status light and make sure it is at least 50% charged then try connect to laptop again.

If you are charging via a PC, do not open eTube otherwise the unit defaults to set up and stops charging. If you've a D-Fly fitted, you can check charge status via the phone or by linking to your head unit via BTE (Garmin, Wahoo etc).
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
  • Also, it's recommended to charge through a laptop/ computer tethered USB rather than plugging a USB straight into a mains adapter. Not sure why, but it's recommended....

But yes, as stated above you don't open etube for charging purposes...

I charge mine straight from the wall using an iPhone charging plug. Another usb charging plug I had didn't work though. Seems a little fussy.

Orange light means it's charging, just like in the image. The light goes out when it's done. Mine takes around 2-3 hours from half way full.

To check just hold the rear shifter for 2-3 seconds and the lights on the junction box will indicate charge - solid green = above 75%, flashing green = 50-75, solid red = 25-50, flashing red below 25%. I've always just charged when I see red. I check every 300 miles or so.
