Hi. I've bought a new BB (BBR60) but my chainset spindle (FC6700) won't fit through.

The first couple of cm go in then it becomes too tight and I'm scared to really force it.

I'm baffled as everything I'm reading tells me that they are compatible.

Can anyone please help?

Cheers.

You need to be a bit more forceful. In the past I've had to resort to some "persuasion" to get a chainset spindle fully installed in a new BB. Use a rubber/wooden mallet (you can protect the surface of the drive side with something suitable) and give it a decent whack. Failing that a normal hammer with a block of wood between it and the chainset.

It will go eventually. Be sure to support the BB area at the same time.

Whack it (use a rubber mallet tho)

dead blow hammer does the job perfect (rubber hammer filled with beads) and is the correct tool for smacking things

Recognition at last Matthew, well done!, a justified honour :D

wrap spindle in cling film (reduces subsequent condensation and ice formation), then put it in the deep freeze for 20 mins, it'll contract slightly

take to bike, remove film at last moment, slip it into bb

let it warm to room temperature before fitting crank and tightening
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
