Anyone else ‘kicked out’ of Tour of Watopia Stages?

Hi all,
Pretty frustrated by Zwift this evening as was just about to start Stage 5 and got stopped by Zwift shutting down just as I was about to go over the start line. It wouldn’t let me back in either so ended up riding London for 15 miles instead ( no issues with this!) This is the second stage this has happened on as had similar issues with Stage 3 too twice. (Once at the start, and once halfway through when ejected out. I reported this to Zwift, but no explanation why.
I’m running an iPad mini which works fine and have not had many issues with Zwift before. Logged on via the Companion app. As noted, riding London was fine so not an internet problem.
Real shame as was v motivated to give Stage 5 a ‘ good crack’ !
Going to report it so that hopefully something can be done in the future to stop this. I did ride the full Stage 3 on 3rd attempt. A lot less people riding when I did it as a ‘catch up ‘ so wonder if it can’t cope with high numbers?
Anyone else experienced the same?

Yes BigMitch Apple iPad mini. Zwift have responded to my Enquiry and it seems there is a problem.
I was pleased to hear back pretty swiftly and hopefully they will sort this soon
Here’s their responses below which have been helpful. I’m about to do the speed test to check this! I’m also in the process of changing internet provider to a service more reliable than my current provider!
Hope the responses might help you too.

    ‘Hi

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the survey that you've received; we truly appreciate it! I'm sorry to hear that your Zwift experience has been anything less than stellar.

We really appreciate you providing us with this information, this will be useful to investigate the issue and hopefully assist us with correcting the issue to avoid this for future events. Feedback from Zwifters like yourself is incredibly useful in our efforts to improve not just the Zwift app, but all other aspects of the Zwifting experience and for all members of the Zwift community.

We've had reports of Zwifters crashing on a few iOS devices since the recent Desert Expansion update release; it's happened to while running, cycling, and just watching while in the Watopia course. Here's a list of the known affected devices:
    - iPhone 6
    - iPod Touch
    - iPad Air
    - iPad Mini 2

We're still investigating this issue and appreciate your patience while we work towards a resolution to this problem. If you'd like to stay on top of any recent news about this, please follow the link that I'm providing to our Community Forums page.

If you have any questions, concerns or additional feedback, let us know! If not, we look forward to seeing you out on the course!

    Ride On.

    Hi

    Thanks for writing in!

The larger events like the Tour of Watopia, have a tendency of exaggerating even minor issues with Zwift's connection to the server.

Since we can't strengthen an individual instance of Zwift from our end. We simply have to make improvements, no matter how minor, to the network Zwift is using to access the server. Please give the following steps a try to see if they help any.

We've outlined the typical reasons and some troubleshooting steps for this error on our knowledge base article "Addressing a "Check your Internet Connection" Error When Attempting to Ride on Zwift."

If that hasn't resolved your issue, you might be experiencing a high ping rate. I'd like you to do a speed test to investigate this possibility. Please, go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and below the Start Test button, select the change server option, choose a server in Los Angeles, then start the test. This should give a good idea of what your connection to our servers looks like. You should see your download, upload, and ping rate.

Keep in mind that all online games, including Zwift, run best at 50ms or lower, as we covered in the article "Do I need an Internet connection to use Zwift?" The higher your ping, the more issues you're going to see since it increases the delay between the Zwift servers and your computer; in some cases, this delay becomes a timeout, and your connection to our servers drops completely. Higher latency for connections that are further away from the server is a limitation of Zwift being an online game.

As a test, I'd recommend trying a different Internet connection to see if it helps at all. For example, if using your phone as an Internet hotspot on a quick ride gives you better results, it would confirm that this is an issue with the specific route from your ISP to our servers. In that case, your next step could be to contact your ISP and see if they could help optimize your connection.

If another Internet connection doesn't help, then the latency may simply be a limitation of your geographical location at this time. We'll be working on expanding our server capabilities as we continue growing as a company; but for now, you may want to contact your ISP to see if they can help optimize your connection. Also, ping is only a part of your connection quality, so any improvements you can make to your connection, router, or signal strength may help - and your ISP should be able to advise you on those components further.

If you're still having problems with that, send me all your log files following the instructions in this article, "Finding Your Log Files to Help Resolve an Issue," along with either a direct link (the web address) to or a screenshot of your results from the speed test.

    Thanks for the help!

That’s like telling you our server is 5000 miles away the inherent latency means that you will get issues from time to time.

50ms is not much at all. The real indication should be at what latency does the connection timeout or the game become unplayable. And how resilient is the system to network losses and errors. Changing your isp won’t change this, you’ll still be 5000 miles away. These are issues mostly for Zwift.

    Hi Alejdrosdog,
    Agreed!
I have just changed from Talk Talk to BT as end of contract. Due to time restrictions I didn’t get to do another Tour of Watopia event as would have been interesting to compare the difference.
I’m not technical at all but am certainly getting a much more consistent 50+ Mbps from BT but the ping is pretty much the same with both providers. The ping doesn’t mean much to me , but have been told that this is important!
Like you I think Zwift overstretched on this event. It has put me off a little, but I do need to run a fair comparison before can really comment/ compare. It was frustrating, but understand could be the ISP as Talk Talk was v unreliable. Equally, I didn’t really experience problems in non - Tour events.
Time will tell. I will update on the next big event on Zwift.
