Replacing front wheel hub without removing tyre?

Hi all,

I'm replacing my front hub. The new hub is the same model as the old, so I'm planning to re-use the spokes. Is it possible to remove the spokes, thread them through the new hub and then install that without taking the tyre off the rim? Will the pressure of the rim tape and tube keep the spoke nipples in place?

Its a Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour tyre, so the wire bead makes it a huge hassle to take the tyre on and off, I'd prefer to avoid that if possible.

    Is it possible, just about.

Is it sensible, no, it’s going to be a real ball ache to do the initial lacing and if the nipples fall back into the rim, impossible.

    Just do it properly!
