Found this while assembling new frame. Doesn't go through the shell.

Worth investigating further - especially as it appears to be a press fit BB. There's a clear anomaly visible (ie a void in the carbon), which could potentially cause further propogation.

    Missing text in there.

Was asking think its superficial or bit more sinister?

Difficult to tell from the picture, but it does look like it may be a crack from what looks like a small hole/chip.

Hopefully it is nothing sinister but I would get it checked out.

Unfortunately it looks cracked to me starting from the imperfection in the carbon. Is it a new frame? I would be looking at returning it as you don’t know if it will get worse in the future especially as it’s a press fit BB, a tight fitting cup may put additional stress on the crack. Hope you didn’t get it from China and need to return it there!

Frame is a Merlin Inferno. I've emailed the pics so hopefully will be sorted asap.

    Send it back +N

It looks like there is a bubble while the carbon frame is forming.
  • If you don't return that frame it's going to be burning away at the back of your mind whenever you ride it!

Given the cavity near the crack that certainly looks like a manufacturing fault.

Just to say Merlin Cycles were fantastic. Took one look at the photo and asked to return the frame. 2 days later a replacement arrived!! Top, top service!

Why whenever I try to put a "smilie" on to my posts do I get the message "unsupported characters" and I have to delete said smilie face?
