Strava gpx file download problem

Hi all.
As a summit member Im aware that Im able to download rides others have done and uploaded, via the .gpx button on the map view of their ride. However...today, I came across a ride via my flyby link where I was unable to do this. This was not someone I followed. There was no such gpx download button as there normally is. I noted that he rode with a Garmin 800.
My question is 'Why was this ride unavailable to download?'
1. Is it something to do with the uploader's strava privacy/security settings?
2. Is it because I don't 'follow' him?
3. Is it a niggle of the garmin 800 as a unit?
4. Something else?
Muchos Gracias.

Cancel, managed to find the below from the Strava site.
"GPX files are tied to an athlete’s Privacy settings, therefore all activities available for export are stripped of any performance data upon download and respect Privacy Zones except for your own file. If an activity is private, only the athlete who owns the activity will be able to export the GPX.
There are some cases where you won't be able to export the GPX file of another athlete. If an athlete has Enhanced Privacy turned on, and you do not follow that athlete, you won't be able to download their activities."0
