My brother asked my advice over the weekend on a new bike

He’s been ride around 18 months now and currently rides an alloy Defy, he’s got
money in his pocket and wants something carbon, a bit more racy, light weight and
has a budget of £2500 to £3000.

He has a short list of a Cannondale SuperSix Evo Ultegra Race, a Scott Addict RC 20
and a Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1. Any thoughts, any alternatives or anything he should
look at ?

A good used bike or a last season model? For that money he should get something good. Lightweight? How heavy is he? If he is 100kg then he would be better losing weight but any of those bikes are ok. Specialized Tarmac, Trek Emonda/Domane/Madone are others to consider. But a lot of bikes are knocked out of the same Taiwanese factory so they all become much of a muchness. Discs are the way forward and electronic shifting but a good mechanical gruppo eg Ultegra/Chorus/Red would be fine
