Why do people on their 30 mph / 45 km/h e-bikes actually think they are fast and try to race.

I was a bit shocked that one of them tried to race me and he was actually taking it seriously. And he only “won” because he decided to jump the red light, risking his own life :?

Not sure what kind of satisfaction he got out of it as he got beat fair and square before the red light.

Quite funny.

I think you're wrong on the e-bikes oxoman. If they get more people out on them then that's great. Not everyone wants to exercise like we do.

Unrestricted e bikes should be crushed and their owners with them.

    Agree with cougie.

What if a fat person is on an e-bike and not a car?

What if anyone is on an e-bike and not a car?

It takes two to race... clearly you were game until he pipped you at the lights, so stop being a moaner and next time don't race folks on e-bikes

I see your point, but I still think that the fit and unfit would benefit more from pedalling a normal bike. I'm not particularly thin myself with a bmi of nearly 28 but I wouldn't get an ebike because it made it easy for me. I agree with the unrestricted opinion of cougies as well, if it continues I can see some sort of registration system being attempted especially after Proffessor Robert Winstons recent rant over pavement riders.

How many things do you do that are non-"beneficial"?

Some people don't have the time/motivation/fitness/changing facilities/care enough to ride a proper bike.

I suspect that we all have a racing mentality - if I see anyone on a bike ahead my immediate instinct is can I catch him / her? Likewise, if I'm passed by a cyclist / cyclists I won't actively race them but I'll see whether I can keep a gap from opening up. On the other hand, I don't get miffed if I don't succeed!
On ebikes - they do have their place. I;ve a couple of work colleagues with conditions that would mean they wouldn't get out and about without the benefit of power assistance. If an ebike makes the difference between riding out and either not getting up off your arse (and I don't mean saddle, at that!) or taking a car I'm all for it.
If you want to give someone on a ebike a run for his / her money - go for it. At worst, you have a handy excuse if you are dropped.

Anyone you SCR with automatically loses the race when they RLJ or do something equally stupid.

So chill, you won and he knows it ;)

yeah I thought that yesterday, actually I was thinking oh gawd riding into a pretty strong headwind is making it tricky as I might catch this guy Id seen just ahead of me at first, but not be able to commit to up my tempo anymore to make the pass stick without looking like I was struggling a fair bit, as Id closed the gap quite quickly to maybe 15metres.

but neednt have bothered worrying at all though, as he just found another zone to ride in, and disappeared up the road, totally dropped me within not much more 600metres of riding & after another 1k he'd basically vanished...had to be an ebike
