Rear derailleur problem

Before fitting a new rear derailleur and changing the rear shift cable I forgot to go to the smallest cog in the back and now I can only reach 2 gears ... How can I fix this problem ?

    I'd just disconnect the cable, and then shift the shifter to the highest gear/smallest cog position (you may have to pull gently o the cable), which you should always check anyway, and set it up again. NO real problem unless you cut the cable really really short!
