The following is a photo review of how to strip and rebuild Planet X CNC Brakes, replacing the internal ball bearings.

This job is relatively easy with the minimum of tools, just a couple of Allen keys, some pliers and a wire brush (or Dremel equivalent). Plus a vice to hold things steady.

Given the age of many of these brakes still in service, it is highly likely that they will need taking apart and checking as a minimum. Reassembly with some grease will certainly help keep them working longer.

My brakes were seized solid and looking at the state of the bearing, you can see why. The steel balls were corroded and replacing them was the only solution. If you are lucky you may get away with just cleaning the steel balls, plus carrier with some WD40 or similar.
