Commuter wheelset

I only commute a total of 10km every day. But I want to start doing some longer rides at the weekend.
I currently have a BTWIN TRIBAN 500 SE and had the back wheel stolen. Any recommendations for a new wheelset or should I just buy a cheap £40 rear wheel. I'm currently looking at:
Shimano WH-RS11 Clincher Road Wheelset https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-wh-rs11-clincher-road-wheelset-44693.html?source=PHG
MAVIC AKSIUM 700 ROAD BIKE WHEELS X2 - BLACK https://www.decathlon.co.uk/aksium-race-road-wheel-set-id_8331679.html
Thanks

Askuims are popular - I have the disc version on my best bike - decent.
On my winter commuter/bike I have campag khamsin (rim brake) - for the extra £10 or so over askuims I would recommend these.0 -
+1 for Aksiums - bombproof and cheap enough so that you can throw them away when they are broken without feeling guiltyPostby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

I'd just go for the cheap Triban replacement rear wheel. And a decent D-lock to stop the b@stards nicking it.0

another vote for Khamsins - have them on my Triban, don't think you can do better for the money0 -

Where did you get khamsins from? I can't find them anywhere online.0 -
I got mine from merlin - but looks like they are sold out now
These fellas have them, but never used them before

Merlin have them - but only campag freehub - OOS elsewhere - perhaps they are discontinued now ?0 -

I have used Rs11 and Aksium Elite for knocking around on.
Either are fine for the purpose, I quite like the easy servicing on the RS11 hubs and have seen them on sale for £100 for the pair over the last few months.
If Rs11 came up at a good price, I would probably buy those.0 -
It looks like the Khamsins have been replaced with the Calima's which are a good wheelset for the price:

Thanks Joe. These looks good and I'd get £10 discount as a new customer. It pains me to spend over £100, as it's money I never intended to spend if the wheel didn't get stolen. But if they're good then i can see it as an upgrade. I'm sure the previous wheels had been on there for about 2 years anyway.0 -

Just seen these on Wiggle too... any good?

Are these disc brake wheels? The ones I found above on Wiggle are disc brakes so would be no good unfortunately.0 -
The CRC ones have a shiny brake track, and the pics of the spoke pattern suggest a rim braked wheel, as does the description of the rim. Admittedly the hubs look like 6 bolt disc hubs. One of the Q&A responses says they are disc. Which means that they have the wrong photo and product name. Best to phone them.
The Wiggle ones have DB (disc brake) in the product name, the rims look disc only (no brake track) and the spoke pattern looks like the disc wheel0 -
I've narrowed it down to these two. Both below £100 and seem like they would do the job for commuting. Any advice on which ones are better?

A lot depends what kind of roads you ride on during your commuting. But I would say that with 20/24 spokes you're having problems commuting. I know btwin Triban usually comes with 28spokes each wheel that is a lot better.
Regarding the wheels you mentioned, the shimano's got 20/24 spokes the Wilkinson 36spokes ( like a touring tire).. imo go for at least 28spokes regardless the kind of wheel.0 -
Fulcrum Racing 7s have served me well as commuter wheels
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -
Has anyone used Miche Excites? These look much cheaper than anywhere else I've seen them.

I'm still waiting to find some cheap Mavic Aksium's if anyone has seen any?0
