I'm after some gel inserts, but I don't what them on the drops. Where I'd like them is on the bend between the bars and drops. Is it possible to use the elements that normally go on the drops, on the corners?

I bought some self adhesive Cinelli inserts about 5 years ago. They are pretty flexible, quite literally, and can be cut and positioned practically anywhere on the handlebars and bent to shape. Once in position you just wrap the tape as normal.

Specialized Bar-Phat is also good but a bit pricier, I think.

  • Thanks, I will look at the Cinelli ones.

I've seen the Specialized tape, but I fancy something colourful

I bought some Cinelli ones from Planet X £3 a pair.
I used them on the top of the bars and a bit round the bend. They are good.
I didn’t try cutting them - not sure if all the gel would leak out.

The gel definitely didn't leak out when I cut them.
