Creds to Lampaert too for his blocking at the end, Doull, Terpstra and Keukeleire looked quite a strong combination.0

Because they couldn’t get past quickstep who were sitting on Drucker. Plus there wasn’t much of the peloton left by that point.[/quote
Jungels went with 16km to go. Too long to just leave Drucker and the QS blockers to it.
You're right of course, but it was a frustrating watch.0 -

From cycling newsMatteo Trentin did not finish the race, but his Mitchelton-Scott team have confirmed that he was not disqualified.0

PCS has Nils Politt as the only rider booted off the race.
Meanwhile, Trentin was caught red handed on camera, taking a clear pavement short cut.
Once again the arbitrary application of the rules imo.
Luke Rowe's DQF was ridiculous in comparison to some of the curb crawling that went on during Flanders, last year.
His visit to the pavement was unavoidable, while others were deliberate.
In other news, Michael "Bag of Spanners" Valgren went one better than yesterday and was a DNF."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Just watched the final KM. That was a very strong attack from far out by Doull0 -

Don't forget the motioning for everyone to stay back, as if they were going to start the chase
"Don't worry, lads, we've got this..."
I thought that bit was a bit of a cheap move.
Just watched the end of this then the last hour or so of Omloop on the turbo, both decent wins for QS in their own right but if this is a precursor to the rest of the classics season it'll be a bit dull.0 -

Not getting enough praise.
It’s only KBK. The definition of a chipper.0 -

Agreed - that was quite something.0 -
Bridges to a big move on the Kluisberv following carnage on the oude kwarmepnt and then forces the break split at over 50km to go on the Varent and then basically drives the break so hard on his own he keeps off a 60 man peloton, drops a decent WT rider on the flat just in the wheels before stringing them out so hard that when he attacked off the front at 16km to go they couldn’t just not follow, they were so pooped they got caught by the peloton.
With a majority headwind, that’s a ridiculous effort.0 -

More impressive than his Liege ride? He had to properly drill it as you say and then when the other riders were cooked, he pulled out more time on his own. Monument or chipper, there was nothing easy about that and it shows what a class all round rider he is0 -

Yes brilliant, his smooth style was torn away at the end, fighting himself and the bike. That’s properly going deep0 -
There’s something extra exciting about a rider dropping others *on the flat*.
No greater show of strength in the sport.0 -

Methinks you are getting a bit carried away.
A number of riders bridged after the Kwaermont and for much of his solo effort he was being chase solo, by a Bora domestique, with his ridiculously strong team able to run interference at will.
For me what was most impressive was that a total cobbles novice managed to ride Ian Stannard off his wheel. I doubt he would have managed that, a few years back.
So, it was good, but not that good and not that different from his last Spring classic effort."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Disagree was a very concerted effort from multiple teams untill around 10km to go inc lotto & Mitchelton untill their boy crashed.
Bob was the guy driving the break the whole time.0 -

I thought the ef education rider was doing quite a bit too. Non the less when it came time he did the biz .
Particularly awesome riding Stannard off his wheel as well.0 -

absolutely. if that group were to have stayed together Magnus cort Neilsen would have been favourite, but Jungels did it all right. he was by far the strongest in that group and timed his move away and his subsequent solo effort to perfection.
deserves a huge amount of credit for this.
also Doull looked like he could be a decent outside bet for a hard cobbled race this year, his finishing surge was really something else. Terpstra was canny, he's never going to win a sprint, but is smart enough to get away at the right time.0
