Can anyone tell me if the focus izalco sl team 2014 frameset can be used with mechanical gears.
I’ve been told it’s a di2 ONLY.
Can anyone say 100% if it can be both?
Or if anyone can send me a link to the spec for the bike.

Which version are you asking about. It seems to have been offered in 4 different builds - the SL1 which had Di2 fitted but the other models SL2, SL3 and SL4 all seem to have had mechanical groupsets - either Shimano Ultegra, SRAM Force 22 or DuraAce 9001.

Don't think they would have developed a non-mechanical frameset just for that 1 model so my guess is that the frameset is capable of running mechanical groupsets
  • It is the 1.0 version
    It’s black and red!
It has only two holes at the front of the frame for internal cabling which leads me to believe that it can’t be done.
But I’m struggling to find any definitive answer!

I thought Focus Izalcos all had external cabling.
  • This one definitely has some internal cabling
  • In the specifications booklet it says that it comes with di2, however, does that mean it can only be di2 or can it be mechanical as well

I am having hard time to believe that a company made a frame Di2 only compatible.

There are a good number of Di2 only frames on the market.
  • I located the spec book online and it came with di2 as standard.
However does that mean it can only take di2??
    This Is a 2014 model.

Here's a link to the 2014 brochure. They list a a different frame version for the electronic versions and they do look to be electronic only.

In the brochure link provided by @awiseman it clearly states that the frame characteristics for the Izalco Team SL include as item 8 - "Internal Integrated Cable Routing". However the description of the Team SL 1.0 gives the frame as "Izalco Team SL PT2 Carbon ES" whereas all the other models lack the "ES" from their frame desciptions.

Your quickest option is to just examine the frame you have. If it can take mechanical internal cabling there should be blanking grommets at the upper end of the down tube and/or on the top tube close to the head tube. If there are no blanked off holes then I'm afraid your frame is probably Di2 only
  • I think you’ve nailed the conundrum there mate!
    No blanking grommets.

I’ve put it up for sale on the bikeradar forum now and will be less naive next time!
It never entered my head that a 2014 would be di2 inly
