Hedge cutting!

Went out on my usual ride this morning and the Hawthorn hedges have been threshed! only for around 400yds.
Thank god for tubeless and Stans!! Picked up thorny twigs and had to cut them flush to the tires but no flats.
Topped up with Stans when I got home just to be safe, last time was September, and found 4 new thorns plus some older ones. So easy to do and well worth it. :D

  • Ditto.

Very similar over my way. Tubeless and sealant is a life saver.

My mate changed his rear tyre last year and it had 14 thorns in it.

I still got tweezers in my little tool bag for that just in case.

Hate the scraping noise on front mudguard.

Recently fitted a new tyre, I’m trying out uberbike tyre sealant. Stans looks a little watery compared to this
  • 'Mudguard', whats that then.......
  • Hedge threshing in February? Where's winter gone? We should be talking about cycling on snow and ice.

By law, farmers can only cut between 1st October and March 31st. Well, that's the law in Scotland.

I doff my cap to your superior knowledge Pinno. Barring a couple of weeks we have had an extraordinary mild winter.

Yeah, spooky. We are left in the constant 'is this just freak weather or is this climate change'. With the seeming proliferation of freak weather, it points to the latter.

Back OT, re. Hawthorne. I have Hawthorne hedges and can I persuade the toots to not cycle on the grass? Nope. It will be solid tyres for them soon.

Nearly twenty years ago when I had a hybrid bike and I was just starting to go off road (green trails, towpaths etc), I was averaging a flat every 14 miles. In desperation I went to the LBS and asked for some solid tyres! Thankfully the guy asked why I wanted them and he sold me some Slime for my tubes. The punctures didn't stop, but the flats did! I have never ridden a bike since that didn't have sealant in the tubes or the tyres, brilliant stuff! :D

Yeah I have tyre sealant but what I think is happening is that the actual rubber quality of kids bike tyres is shyte and therefore not very compliant. My guess is that the hole created by being punctured by anything does not close up when extracting whatever has gone in quite the same as a half decent tyre/tube.
On road, I use Vittoria's twinned with latex and the combo is so reliable.

Do you guys use tubeless off road? I am wondering about a gravel bike. There are trails for miles here and Kirroughtree not too far away.
Of course, I would have to buy a VW transporter to put it in. :D
