Carbon wheel rim wear

Hi, looking for a bit of advice on a how worn my carbon rims are.
They came with a bike I bought second hand but I've no interest in running tubular tyres so I'm going to chuck them on Ebay.

Just wanted to check what sort of condition i should say the brake tracks are in as I've no experience of carbon wheels. I'm guessing that the carbon weave showing through is expected after a big of use and since it's not yet showing all the way around, they've still plenty of life in them?

Thanks

Unfortunately the pics you provide do very little to show wear. You need a close up of the rim to see how concave they are. Preferably with a straight line on them like a ruler edge. The pics you show might give signs of delamination but again it's hard to tell from the distance away they are

I think that actually answers my question, thanks

If the wear is measured in the same way as alu rims then I think they're in pretty good nick. It was only really the exposed carbon weave that made me think they might be a bit worn out.

New pictures below show close ups with a straight edge across the brake track.

That was the delamination I mentioned. Its a bit hard to tell if the fibres are exposed or just a bit duller due to wear

I wouldn't measure a carbon rim the same as an alloy rim.

This rim has around 18,000 hilly miles on it and it sits flush to a ruler, but I have worn a hole in it.

A worn tubular is not as dangerous as a worn clincher. I rode this tubular wheel, badly delaminated for ages without any trouble, until the hole appeared and it interfered with braking.

I think your rims look in pretty good shape.
  • Give them a clean before selling them.

    Thanks for the help.
No delamination but they could do with a wipe, maybe I'll even dig out a couple of valve caps before I Ebay them.

I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
