Hi
Has anyone gone from a Specialized Roubaix to a TCR advanced?

In two minds to upgrade the Specialized Roubaix SL4 or go head first into the world of TCR’s

Would the giant be too harsh a ride?

And advice /views would be appreciated

Cheers

I have a TCR advanced disc having migrated from a defy disc. I love it. Racy but comfortable on 25mm Hutchinson tubeless tyres. Have ridden it 100 miles in a day, over Kent and Surrey pot roads and up and down Pyrenees including stage 17 of last years TdF. A fab bike for this 56y old.
  • I may take mine out on Friday for the first time.

BTW, do you need a M/L frame?

  • Didn't have long. Did 10 miles. Absolutely effortless. Stiff but comfy. Feels more racy than my Supersix was in terms of being easier to move around quickly, but more comfortable. Lower top tube is really nice. Love it.

  • Hi, sounds good, I am still looking to buy a TCR,
I was worried about it being to harsh, compared to my Roubaix, as I suffer with lower back pain,

But then I went out on my TCX

So now to decide what version, possibly the 105 then upgrade to DI2 in 12 months time

    Thanks for your advice
  • Did my full commute on it yesterday. 17 each way. It flies. Averaged 19.2 mph easy on the way home.

  • Hi
I am now thinking of going for the 2018 disc model, same as yours i believe,

Is there much difference between the 2018 and 2019 model?
There is a big saving between the two, would you notice the difference?

Is it worth the extra money?

    Thanks

    Deeper wheels, that’s it.

I have owned a Defy and currently have a TCR Advanced, Specialized Roubaix SL4 and a Scott CR1 SL. I’ve had prolapse of L4/L5 and L5/S1 and needed surgery. I can ride the TCR as long as the others, in fact I ride it more, it’s great.

It’s up to you what you like the most though?

Hi thanks for that post, very interesting, can’t make my mind up at the moment,
Should I go for comfort, defy, but would I regret not getting the TCR,

My choice was pretty much dictated by the fact that, deeper wheels aside, the 2018/19 TCR were pretty similar and I preferred the older colour.

There was a 2018 Defy at the same price, but I've gone off black and green. It was nice though. The 2019 Defy really is a looker IMO, lovely paintjob. But it was over a grand more than my TCR.

    Get the TCR!
56Y Old and 76 kilo's here with prolapsed l4/5 10y ago. I had a retul fit at the weekend and most of my measurements of flexibility/strength were "adequate" ( :))but i have no difficulty riding a TCR. I prefer it to my Defy. It feels fast and responsive and comfortable with 28mm pro ones at 80 psi on Hunt 4 seasons or Hutchinson storm 25's on Zuss 19mm internal carbon rims. Defy a touch more comfortable but i only ever rode that with 28's on the 4 seasons.
