Campag Ergo-shifter slips on bar

Installing a 2010 / 2011 Athena shifter onto some Ritchey bars and tightened to 10Nm as suggested but the shifter still slips / moves.

Cant figure out why...I have Campag shifters on my other bikes on Ritchey and other bars and have never encountered this problem. The shifter clamp is on the curved part, not the straight but the bottom part of the body seems to be flush against the bar...thats not supposed to happen? Tried moving the clamp but still can't get it to be tight / not slip

I suggest your first step in solving the problem is to put your torque wrench back in its box and tighten the shifter until it does not move.

Try some carbon assembly paste between the shifter clamp and the bar - It increases friction and reduces how tightly you need to fasten components.

Try the shifter on a different bar.

Travelling at the moment but will give that a go thanks
  • clamp is busted. if youre sure its not, wrap a few turns of electrical tape around the bar at the clamp point after checking the bar isnt cracked/deformed.

Finally back home and tried some new shifters on the same bars...no slippage. Looks like the clamp is bust on both of the Athena shifters then. Got them a few years back off someone in this forum and they have been in the spares box until now. No redress after so long I guess...buyer beware...
