Carbon road frame for 28mm tyres

I've been riding a PlanetX Pro Carbon road bike for some years, and enjoyed it. I now want to pension off the frame and replace it, if possible, with something very similar but with clearance for slightly larger tyres. I'd swap the Ultegra equipment and wheels to the new frame. 28mm tyres would be good, or even 32mm. I don't want discs.

Is such a frame available? I've been unable to find anything.

Thanks for any suggestions.

  • I’ve got 28mm on my s Works tarmac sl6. Plenty of space.
  • How about a Dolan Dual?

It's made for deep drop brakes so you may be able to get those 32mm tyres in there.

I replaced my cracked pro carbon frame with another Px - the Maratona.

It take Schwalbe Durano 28s with more space than 25s on the pro carbon. I’ve got sram Force brakes on it and the blocks are at the end of the adjustment but do fit.

Have you looked at the procarbon evo - not sure what that will allow.

Thank you for the responses so far.

Ribble Endurance: looks interesting - I've emailed Ribble to see whether they'll sell the frameset separately.

S Works Tarmac: looks great, but £2400 is beyond my budget for a frame.

Dolan Dual: have seen one of these, and there's no more clearance than on my current PX.

PX don't seem to do the Maratona any more. I'm hoping to get to their Sheffield shop in the next few days to look at the Procarbon Evo.

Any other thoughts would be welcome - thanks again.

I’d be interested in what you find out about the Px Pro Carbon Evo.

Recently bought a Rose X-Lite 4 and I specified 28mm tyres on my order. Seems to have plenty of clearance. Some pics included in my thread in "Your Road Bikes"

Only issue is whether Rose would offer a frame only option. None listed on their website but it might be worth asking if you're interested

    Thanks for the helpful replies.

Orbea: seems to be race-oriented, whereas I'm looking for something a bit less 'aggressive'; and may be a bit pricey for me.

Rose: I've emailed them to ask whether they'll supply frameset only.

Not yet able to get to PX shop, but will report back on their Evo frame.

    Cheers.

The Orbea Avant is not race geometry and is available from £699 https://www.orbea.com/gb-en/bicycles/road/avant/cat

Thanks. Hadn't seen the Avant, which does look interesting, although the carbon frame seems to come only in a disc version. Carbon is my preference, but the alu frame might be worth considering. Still pondering . . .

Just heard back from Rose that they don't sell frames separately. Pity.

I am told (though not certain) that PX no longer have a shop you can visit and that it is all online now?

You're quite right, OTR! see - https://www.planetx.co.uk/stores. Thanks for mentioning it.

I was intending to ring ahead to make sure they'd got what I wanted, but now I'm saved a journey! Might just ring for info on the frame.
