First, you can still get 3x your Tesco vouchers with Evans. I have just opened the box of my Mavic Cosmic Elite disc wheels that I thought were a good buy at £295.( actually vouchers and some cash) The Evans description does mention tyres but I was not expecting to see what I had in the box. They come with Yksion tyres fitted!!!!! even 25mm that I was going to buy. :D:D:D

  • Nice. Good to some praise for shops when they get it right instead of the negative side. Hope you have many enjoyable miles on them
  • Evans advertise them as wts so struggling to see why you are surprised.

Those tyres tend to come with Mavic WTS road wheelsets. They are not particularly good tyres, in my experience.

As mentioned above, Yksions really aren’t much cop and you would be better off with something else on those wheels.

I run Mavics Yksion Pro UST on my Cosmic Pro Carbon sl UST wheels and can't fault them.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

This site does not think they are crap either.

Really liked how Yksions feel and roll, but never had so many punctures as on those tyres.

Had them come with 3 sets of new Mavic wheels, same experience each time.

I have Mavic/Yksions on one of my bikes and I am not overly impressed, they seem a bit ‘dead’ in comparison to the ones on my other bike.

Big difference between the Yksion UST (tubeless) tyres and the regular Yksions which aren't much cop..

It isn't clear from the Evans site which ones you actually get?

They have a fairly low thread count, they aren’t much good for puncture protection.

Bloke who runs the local bike shop, good cross racer, swears by Yksion tyres on his road bike, was stunned when I said put them back on the shelf when he offered me them. Personally I’ve never had such a puncture prone tyre though.
  • I've been running Yksion Pro Griplink/Powerlink SSC tyres exclusively on my RSYS-SLR wheels since buying them in the Autumn of 2013 and I'm now running the tub version on a set of Ksyrium Pro Carbon SL. In all that time I've had one puncture a few years back when I went over a bit of metal. I've also never had an issue with grip either. So either we have the cleanest roads up here (we don't) or you lot are spectacularly unlucky.

    I think they're great tyres.

These are the ones I took off the last set of Mavic Cosmic Elites I bought. They are the same as the tyres I had on the previous Mavic WTS Wheelset I had, and they were really not very good ( regarding grip / traction and durability /P* protection) rather than rolling performance ( which wasn’t too bad ). I took them off straight away and fitted Durano plus, which fair much better in the conditions we’ve got round my way at present.

I had some Yksion tyres with my bike. They didn't seem bad at rolling resistance and had no punctures but they were awful in the wet. Literally spinning on slight rises.
  • Don't think the Yksion Elite (which I've no experience of) and the Yksion Pro (which I think are great tyres BTW) are the same.

    Possibly not.
