Hi to all, got these HED Wheelset, they came on a secondhand bike that I bought. I will never use them so will probably sell them on but I'm not sure of actual model, any help would be appreciated. Also any help with their approx value.

That I do know is that they are Carbon wrap. The hubs are also marked HED.
I think the spokes are bladed ?

Front weighs approx 740 grams
Rear approx 1022 g
weight with no skewers

  • Possibly an old pair of HED Jet or HED Alps?

They are nice, fully serviceable wheels, which can be easily repaired or rebuilt if needed.

Not worh very much though... I'd say you can tentatively put them up for 150 or so, or set a reserve at that price.

I would consider keeping them, they might not be as aero as the latest models, but they have a lot of other advantages over those

I'm penniless, otherwise I would make you an offer :D

I'm assuming they would be 10 spd max?
    Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
Marin Palisades Trail 91 and 06
    Scott CR1 SL 12
    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18

Pretty sure that is the case.

They would make a really cool pair for someone with a late 90s/early 00 carbon frame... something like a Colnago C40/C50 or a lugged carbon Look or an old Specialized Allez.

I bet Malcolm (the cycle clinic) would buy them

Yes I reckon a Hed Jet from memory, are they 60mm?, maybe had new decals because isn't there normally a full stop after the HED so maybe the originals were looking scruffy so they bought some yellow replacements and didn't put the full stop on which might be why googling them never comes up with the yellow ? Tubs or clinchers I can't tell from the photos ?

  • Hi Guys, many thanks for the replies, very helpful and also jogged my memory. Not sure where the measurement is taken from [if braking surface is included or not], photo below will hopefully help with that. Don't look 60mm though.

Thanks ugo.santalucia I won't use them myself I'm more leisure / keep fit spasmodic rider when my back allows me. To be honest I would possibly consider swaps ?

They came with a 10 speed cassette and I think they are only up to 10 sp max.

DeVlaeminck, my memory was jogged and yes I think you are right about te decals. The condition of them are really good and I remember the seller saying he changed decals to match the bike they were on. A Boardman Elite sls 9.0 a red[ish] and yellow frameset. [that's still in loft at moment as lol].
    They are clinchers
    Many thanks again.

  • Too deep to be Jet 4... but they are likely to be Jet.

I wonder if those are titanium spokes...

In the review it says they are 45mm, where are the measurements actually taken from, Cheers
I'll get my magnet out !
  • From the rim edge, so yours look like 55.

Some stainless spokes are not paramagnetic, so it's hard to say

  • Just tested with magnet, the front spokes are non magnetic at all and the rear are very slightly. I appreciate stainless is can appear non magnetic depending on grade [compared to steel]. As an engineer I used to work with stainless and titanium etc. I suspect they are higher grade stainless on rear as they are only slightly magnetic.
As you say then ugo.santalucia they must be 55, thanks for that. Cheers

Probably the front are titanium then. The front spokes are either straight pull fitted the other way round or they are double threaded. Shimano used nipples at the hub too for a while, but I can't remember if the spokes were double threaded.

They are very interesting wheels for someone who likes wheels... shame I have nothing to trade them against. :|

  • Thanks ugo.santalucia your a wealth of knowledge, much appreciated.
  • They look like my Hed Jet ironman titanium from 1994. Still have 'em.
