Chain ring advice

Currently have a 50/34 (110 bcd) chain ring set up with 11 speed Shimano 105. The 50t chainring needs changing to a 48t (restricted gearing). I'm struggling to find a 48t which is 11 speed compatible, most are 9/10 speed. Would it be ok to use a 9/10 speed 48t on an 11 speed set up? I wont be changing the 34t.

Many thanks.

PS If someone can recommend a decent 48t that would work, I would really appreciate it!

Yep it'll work fine - the number of bolts might be the bigger issue if you are using 11 speed 105 - does your current chainring fix with 4 bolts or 5?

So four bolt looks like this - https://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5800-chainset/
five bolts would look more like this - https://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-57 ... -chainset/

If it is 5 bolts, then I can recommend the spa Zicral chainrings that I've found to be excellent quality and value, here-

  • Thank you!

    It's a 5 bolt set up (it's a Shimano RS500 double chainset 11speed)

I don't believe the internal width of the chain changed between 10 and 11 speed. The external width did, but the plates were just made a fraction thinner. I therefore assume the teeth on chainrings and cassettes have the same dimensions. I don't think you'll have a problem running either chainring.

I've used "11 speed" chainrings with 10 speed, and an 11 speed chain with 10 speed groupset, no issues at all. Lots of similar reports online.
