I have a GT Grade with a BB30 BB. The BB30 part is a plastic tube bonded in to the carbon frame. It has come loose and I need to glue it back in.

Has anyone got any Epoxy recommendations to glue plastic back in to carbon?

It's for a cheap project so dont want to send it to a Pro workshop

Is is pressfit? I use Loctite 638 on my pressfit bottom bracket to hold in place. It’s not the tightest fit but this Loctite holds it.

When the LBS fixed in an adapter on my BB30 to change it to hollowtech, the adapter was supplied with Loctite 638 as mentioned above. Done over 10000miles since and not a squeek or an issue with it.

Given its a carbon frame and plastic sleeve loctite 638 isn't really suitable. Loctite 638 is really for metal to metal. For a carbon frame and plastic sleeve I'd expect a resin based based adhesive to be more suitable, hence suggesting a repair at carbon repair specialist.

Correct. As the above are actually gluing the inner shell to another bit of metal in a sleeve you would use 638 but this is the outer shell to a composite material. Although since BB30 is rubbish, I would use this opportunity to get a conversion to threaded done at the same time. No creaking and better choice of chainsets available.
  • Thanks chaps I will give Easy Composites a ring.

It's for a commuter that will have shrapnel put on it as it will be locked up outside at the airport overnight so the less spent the better. It will have a praxis adapter that expands in to the shell also The worst that can happen it it will come loose again and creak
