Ultegra reach adjustment
Hi
I managed to round off the head of the plastic ( ) reach adjustment screw on my left brake lever. In the process of getting it out, the thread became completely stripped, so I’m left with a gaping hole through where the screw was and unable to put in a new one.
Anyone know a genius alternative way of adjusting the reach?
Thanks

Before Shimano went to screws, they used shims under the hood, between the hood and the lever. If you have enough access, you might be able to get under there and glue an appropriately sized shim or bit of plastic to the bit where the screw normally sticks out. Failing that, could you get a bigger diameter screw and just hope it cuts it's own way through the plastic? TBH, I don't think either option is that likely to succeed. If you have small hands where the "fix" failing could be a safety issue (I have small hands and would have this problem), I'd maybe write them off. Good luck.0

I don’t know what that is, but that’s for tiagra. Ultegra just has a screw that pushes the lever.0 -

That's the part, but as newer levers aren't designed for it, I don't think that particular shim would work for the OP. I just used it as an example for what might work.
This image shows how the 105 5700 shims fit:

OP, what actual levers are you talking about, 6800?0 -

Yeah 6800.
I actually managed to kind of get a fix. I found a metal screw slightly bigger than the original thread and just screwed it in there. Seems fine for the moment!0 -
Metal screws on 7900. Sad to see Shimano reverting to plastic for later generation Ultegra. What's on the latest DA?Ben
