Frame protection wrapping £150 worth it?

Happy New Year all!
So looking at buying Mason Bokeh and found a shop and they offer a frame wrapping service for £150.
Having never used0done it, is it just like shrink wrap? Is it something I could do myself for a fraction of the price, or is it good value to have professional done?
The Bokeh also has thick paint anyway so I guess it wouldn't chip that easily.
Will the frame protection wrapping not also start pealing and chip over time anyway, how long do they usually last for?
Thanks Andy

I wouldn't bother and would just buy the bike, ride it and spend the 150 notes on blow and a ho.

Just get some Helicopter tape from eBay and put it anywhere the cables can touch the frame and on the chainstay (plus the cranks if they're new too).

That will give you all the protection you could possibly need for about £3. I've done several bikes with one £3 roll.

If you plan to cover large areas and you've not done it before, it'll look pap. But small areas under cable touch points etc. is easy.
£150 sounds an epic rip off!!

Cables are internal routing, I'm more bothered about stone chips and scraps.
I'm going to call the shop and discuss anyway see if they'll negotiate as bike setup be circa £4500.

How much would a reasonable cost to wrap it?
How long lasting will it be?

Even with internal routed cables there are rub points on the steerer tube before they go in, I have marks on mine from it.

Mine I ran a long strip along the down tube my thinking being stones ping up off the front wheel.
If it doesnt have a chain suck plate Id suggest putting tape there an along the chainstay to prevent chain slap damage. You wont get as much chain slap as on an MTB but potholes an cattle grids can produce some.

End of the day you can do as much taping as you like youll end up with some weird damage, I chipped the side of my chainstay. No idea how right through one of the markings on the frame. Point being its a bike, it will get bashed up at some point.

Buy the bike and ride it. Save your money for more interesting stuff.

Wear the dings and scratches with pride

I cannot fathom how it could cost anywhere near £150.

I'd not bother, it will probably look shite after a bit of time anyway.

I've only done the DIY option on crank arms/chain stay and spent about a tenner and quickly realised it isn't easy to get a decent result since there is not much flat on a bike frame! The tape is still holding up though, no peeling or any marks at all.
Have you had a look here:

I'd imagine anyone offering this type of service is going to be in the same ball park price wise, any professional result is going to take at least a couple of hours labour alone.

I had my S-Works Diverge done by Shak Wrap when I bought it last year and I'm glad I did. There are a couple of dings in the wrap that would have resulted in damage to the paint if the wrap wasn't there. The wrap also makes its a doddle to clean. Money well spent IMHO.

Sounds like you need some protection for the protection.

Bit of tape to stop cable rub. Dings, chips and scratches give a bike character.

Thanks, I think to start with to keep costs down I'm going to have a go at diy. Thanks 58585, looks tempting with the pre cut strips Vs 3m of Heli tape. Hmm

How do you react when someone actually insults you? As opposed to gently taking the piss about frame protecting your entire bike I mean?
