Hi All, I normally cycle with the club kit from May till Sept, but as things start to cool, I use my Assos S7 tiburu shorts which I use with DHB light leg warmers, these get me through a good bit of the winter. I would some times use Castelli Naoflex, Assos or Santini leg warmers, but generally find these to warm and go back to the DHB ones. I have a LL.HaBu tights which again the legs feel too warm in and a LL.Millie tights for the real cold days, even then the knees feel a bit warm....My question is, is there any company out there that do a shorts that is warmer than the Assos Tiburu or is there a full bib tights that has a lighter section from just above the knees down.

  • I wear the sportfil fiandre no rain. The waterproof doesn't really work but keeps you warm if you keep riding hard but they are also fleecy lined so nice when cold but dry

Castelli LW bib tights exactly fit the description of the "tights with a lighter fabric below the knee.

They basically are their thermal bibshorts (Omloops) made into longs by attaching summer weight lycra to the bottom. That means they've got a lighter Roubaix material than most tights and the Progetto X2 pad which is about as good as it gets.

I got a set when Evans were knocking them out cheaply and was able to stack some discount codes (paid a shade over £50 for mine); thinking that at that price they would be a good thing to own for early autumn, before it goes to proper tights weather. I've ended up using them far more than I thought I would; 1. because conditions have been milder than I thought and 2. because they cover a really useful range of temperatures (i.e pretty much anything you'd wear a thermal jersey for and not a jacket). I doubt you'll get anything like as good a price as I did - but they are a quality bit of kit and I would happily pay £100 for a set if anything happened to mine.
  • The LW seem to be the go to choice but, also, warm knees are good.

Thanks, I see they have a Pro model with the TC Pro pad and one with the bodyfit pad, they seem to rate that one higher for insulation and breathability.
