Heartrate monitor with Garmin 800

I have a Garmin 800 and the heartrate monitor hasn't worked properly for years.
It seems to record at double speed, flashing up a warning that I'm about to explode.

Can anyone recommend a fix, or will a third party HRM work with the Garmin and my Strava account?

Any suggestions appreciated

Any other ant+ HRM should do the job. I've got one of the Wiggle Lifeline straps here, which works fine pairing with a Garmin 500..
  • Sadly I think it's a common fault. Just needs replacing.

Try a polar strap with the Garmin HRM. The Garmin belts degrade over time due to sweat/ moisture ingress.

Most work, but as Pete said the Polar strap fits and works well, mine did similar before replacing. Plus point the polar strap is some what cheaper and more comfortable

I must be lucky. My Garmin strap is now 6 or 7 years old and works fine still....

    Hard strap or soft strap?

I had problems with the hard strap battery cover seals after changing the battery. It literally filled with sweat. Yuck! Gave very erroneous readings of 240+. Cleaned it all out, let it dry and wrapped 3 layers of electrical tape over the lot. Works fine and is now my spare/Turbo hrm (lots of sweat!)

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.
