Industrial Revolution (if you weren't poor and having to risk your life in a factory or mine). Victorian era (if you weren't poor). Mid 60s maybe?

Which differs from post tax income how, in your mind?

Taxed to oblivion?...remind me again who you voted for, Mr. Turkey.

Most people will out earn their parents then.

On that metric you out earn your parents. Took a while to get over the GFC bubble, but presumably your parents didn't exclusively live from 2000-2007.

Oh. So you mean income.

There'll probably be some people who join thinking their one vote could create chaos in the Party they dislike. Can you imagine that? Actually, based on the likely membership size one vote could actually be important.

I played that game back when it was Spaffer vs *unt. Thing is, party 'members' only get to partake in the final 2 decision, the rest of the whittling is done by the factional insider gangs.

I'd be tempted to join and vote in a centre right candidate. But there won't be one.

Haha. About as ringing an endorsement as proclaiming '"Ofsted rating: Adequate!" on school signage.
They just don't get it. Not one of them.

Imagine polling worse that someone who isn’t even a member of your Party!

Blimey. Some actual vaguely sensible comments from Priti Patel.
Makes a nice change.

She is finding her leadership bid positioning and has decided a shift to centre may have some space for her.
I bet she can’t help but be in awe of the government and police handling of the riots 😜

Well, sure, but some of the other candidates (Jenrick in particular) are doubling down on the Reform-lite bollox dead end.

JenPricks are gonna keep pricking.

When Patel comes over as vaguely reasonable, you realise how shallow the talent pool is.
I'm still amazed that they haven't managed to find someone who's not been tainted by the shambles of the last fourteen years. Tugendhat had a chance, but for whatever reason (lac of judgement/morals?) he's gone all Reformy.
The catastrophe for the party is that anyone with an ounce of sense realised that pragmatic/honest right-of-centre principles were no longer welcome in the Tory Party of Johnson-Truss-Sunak, and scarpered.

By the time of the next election, it'll be a toss-up between 87 and 'dead' at this rate.

UK had the best economic performance in the G7 in the 3 months to the end of June this year:
Doesn't sit well with Labour's claim of inheriting a total economic disaster, does it. Also doesn't help their case for rinsing us for yet more tax.

Yes, because a a measure of improvement tells you about how well you are doing overall. I see that now.
We should have recessions more often, because that way we can grow faster afterwards.

A period of superior growth is just that and it happened on the Tories watch. That said, now Labour are in power, it will be interesting to see which way it goes. I think we know the answer to that, especially after Reeves rinses us for more tax to pay off the public sector and unions.

Yes but it's only growth. If you made a fubar of the economy for a decade and left us a decade of growth behind our peers, 3 months of marginally.better growth does not mean we have suddenly overtaken everyone.
It's the same as arguing that process are dropping because inflation has come down. Not that you would do such a thing Stevo.

Second best growth in Q2 is great, but it's a bit like waiting until you're a lap down before putting in the best lap time.

You say the fubar bit like it's fact rather than your opinion.
