I think she is standing down at the GE. Labour are sticking with their own candidate.

I assume she’ll defect to Reform?

I mean it's not just home ownership. Its the whole package that enables you to have the "I'm alright Jack" attitude, although a big part is obviously home ownership.

Which is kinda my point. Current boomers voted Blair in. Just because someone is a certain age doesn’t mean they have to vote a certain way.
IIRC, 2/3 of boomers will not be voting Tory at the next election so you have to wonder what all the signalling is about.

The diminishing Tory vote would back that up. 😉

It’s a bizarre move, even her ex-colleagues have made jokes about there being no-one to the right of her. I genuinely assumed she would announce she was joining Reform and would be in that group that think Sunak is a useless Leftie. There doesn’t seem to be anything in it for her with Labour sticking with their current candidate and there’s nothing in it for Labour as it is just as embarrassing that they’ll take her as an MP as it is for the Tories to lose another one. They could have made more of a point by saying they didn’t want her.

It feels just like trolling for the sake of it... other than that, it's just bizarre, unless she publicly repents of all her sins and tells the nation what a load of bounders Tories are.

...and then gets binned by Labour.

The piece about it in the Stevograph suggests she's doing it in support of their house building plan.

By all accounts she is someone that would be described by most Cake stoppers as a nutter, so should fit in just fine at her new party 🙂
Some random article on the iinterweb said she made Suella Braverman look like a woke, tofu-eating liberal.

And yet she's a step up from her ex husband and the Conservative Party selected both of them.

And she's been welcomed with open arms by Starmer...

There's an election in 6 months. Will she even stand?

I think think her jacket is on a wobbly hanger. 😉

If she does it will be somewhere else and who would vote for her? I’m surprised she didn’t join Reform as they seem more aligned with her politics and would probably have made her their candidate in Dover.

If it's good enough for Churchill...
From what I've read she'll be moving to an unpaid advisory role on housing after the GE, which is her area of expertise.

Perhaps Labour should offer one-time Labour member @Stevo_666 an unpaid role as a tax-reduction tsar.

She was getting paid £3k per month for 8 hours a week of work in her last advisory role so that's a bit of a come down!

If she wants to actually deal with small boats and housing rather than just obsess about sending a token few people somewhere else, maybe she's right to change party.

If they want to pay me to help reduce the burden then I might be interested. However given Labour's instinctive drive to tax more, that would be a bit like a pride of Lions paying someone to clear their local area of Zebra.

A follow-up from Dan Neidle and Zahawi, including, at the end of his thread, a thought abut why he might just have decided to step down.

Very much enjoying the Conservatives telling us how they've known for years that Natalie Elphicke is unsuitable to be an mp.

Smart pre election trick. The old trojan horse ploy 🤣

She doesn't seem to be the type worried about a little negative press. For all the internal handwringing I think it's quite a positive message to say you welcome your former enemies. You can't win an election preaching to your own supporters. You'd think other parties might have spotted this as well.

If this lot ever did get around to a third runway they’d probably start building it then announce it is too expensive so they were only going to make it long enough for a single propellor plane.
