Hi all

Could I run a 30t cassette with a Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed short cage rear mech and a 50-34 chainset?

Thanks

Just but a miche 13-30t would be needed to maintain chain tension in all gears. your stretching the limits of the rd.The short cage rd will just clear a 30t cog. It will work but expect some noise in 30t cog and that the shifting would be better with a medium cage.

Yes. Make sure your chain is long enough in big sprocket and big chainring. Avoid using small sprockets and small chainring. If you do you might have a droopy chain but that does not cause a problem. You have similar gear ratios with big chainring so there is no need to use small/small.

Yes. I did exactly that on my Zullo for a while. Chain tension in small-small was indeed marginal, but I never use that ratio anyway.
  • Thanks, so as long as I don't cross the chain it should be ok?

Just, your pushing the limits of the rd. Cross chaining is to avoided.

    It may indeed work.
However, a 13-29 would work perfectly as designed. For the sake of one tooth...
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.
