They don't cost much to replace but I may as well try and clean them first. Any ideas on what might work as a cleaning fluid on rubber?

Baby wipes. Good for grubby bar tape and saddles too. In fact I use them over the whole bike if it is just lightly grubby.
Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere
  • Like the baby wipes any kitchen wipes like Mr Muscle, Dettol, Flash

Try two things, first try Dawn for Dishes (non citrus), this stuff is good for almost any kind of dirt, in fact I use it on a damp synthetic sponge and clean my bike and my chain with it, works great at removing grease. If that doesn't work then try 409, I find this to also work really well on tape and saddles, but I wouldn't clean the bike with it.

    whats 409?

    From wiki:
Formula 409 is a brand of home & Industrial cleaning products well known in North America, but virtually unknown in other countries. It includes Formula 409 All-Purpose Cleaner, Formula 409 Glass and Surface Cleaner, Formula 409 Carpet Cleaner, and many others
