...have they gone bust? A friend has paid hefty deposit on a new build, frame is paid for, for the last few days no one has answered the phone and the shop hasn’t been open. No response to email either, although recent Instagram posts are up.

A Google search throws up something along the lines of permanently closed at this location (in bold red lettering). If he didn't pay his deposit by credit card he might be in trouble.

Further evidence of the way things are heading. I blame Wiggle.
PS - That red permanent closure thing is new today. It wasn't there last night.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • Oh dear - I was only in there two weeks ago. It has always been a point of call when in Edinburgh, sad to see it go if that's the case.

Having a look online, last tweet was Nov 3, but they did post on FB on 1 December:

"Ronde cafe still remains open and welcoming any stray coffee lovers throughout our usual opening hours. Come and enjoy the rainy afternoons with a hot cup of coffee and a good chat!" (my italics).

Not sure what the 'still' refers to, maybe reading too much into it.

They also posted on FB that they had a power cut on the 24th Nov - maybe this was when your friend called them?

Click on the link below and look at the right hand side.
The third review is quite ironic.

  • I'm in the Ronde club, most of us are in the dark too. The café is open, the club is still a thing, but the bike fitter who worked out of there had about 30 minutes notice that he wasn't working out of there any more. Real shame - hope OP's friend gets seen right as well.
