I dropped my Garmin Edge 520 on the kitchen floor and smashed the top layer above the screen and now there's several large cracks in it. I'm pretty sure the cracks are just in the top layer of glass rather than the screen itself.

I can't really afford to get it repaired and it sounds like a massive pain so I plan to continue with it cracked if possible.

My question is... will this be ok? Everything seems to work as normal but will the cracks lead to further damage? Should I take it off my bike and put it in my pocket if it starts to rain?

Only one way to find out, short of running it under the tap.
  • HOUSE insurance????
  • If it fires up, it will work. It may look a bit gash with a cracked screen, but it will work.
  • He isn't asking if it will work.

So I see. I’ve dropped a 520 and cracked the screen before. It’s been used in hell and high water conditions, and still isn’t dead, so I reckon the OP’s one will be fine.

yes keep on using it,and stick some tape over the top.

or if you can afford it replace the glass screen

that is a link for garmin spares on ebay its not original parts but if you have £20 you can replace the glass yourself. he only specialist tools you'll need is a hairdryer to remove the original. When youre cleaning it before putting the new glass on, use iso propyl alcohol which is very cheap lasts ages and can be used to clean loads of other stuff too.

Get a screen protector for a mobile phone (approx £2) cut to size and put over the cracked screen to reduce chance of water ingress or cutting yourself.
