Shimano Hollowtech splines compatibility - Road/MTB

A simple question - are the splines on a Shimano Hollowtech MTB chainset exactly the same as those on a Hollowtech Road chainset ?
More specifically, could I fit a road left hand crank onto a MTB crankset spindle ?

    I don't know, but the answer will be in the Shimano Technical Documents website. Look up the two components that you want to match and it will provide the answer. But it will be a lot quicker if someone who already knows will tell you.

    I'm guessing that Shimano won't have compatibility documents for what you want. They are ultra conservative about compatibility between different road components. I'd guess the splines are the same though.
