I know that P2M claim that pre-ride calibration isn't really necessary because the unit will auto-calibrate when you stop pedalling for a few seconds, but I'm a control freak and like to have it calibrated from the off.

There is this annoying thing with the NG whereby the calibation hardly ever works when you've just activated the meter and the green light is still flashing. You have to wait a couple of minutes until it stops flashing, then you have a short window in which to calibrate before it switches off. I think this is only an issue when you are paired via ANT+ rather than Bluetooth.

Is there any way around this other than switching to Bluetooth for the connection? It really annoys me and I seem to get a more reliable connection with Ant+.
