Just a question,
does anyone know if you can get some sort of tracker fitted to your bike?
kind regards

  • You can get things like this that you could theoretically use on a MTB as they work on motorbikes.

SIM card GPS tracker - you usually need a power source for the smaller one but could be wired to a powerbank.

Depends exactly what you want to use it for and how long you want the battery to last.

There were a few threads a few years ago. All seemed pretty useless sh1t. A search would pick them up.

Do you mean like the ones in cars to help police find them after they have been stolen?

If so, forget it. The police will not be the slightest bit interested in retrieving your bike. If they recover 10 bikes at the same time, it will just mean more paperwork for them for what they consider low value crime. Far better never to let it get stolen. Never let it out of your sight unless it is locked up inside your garage or inside your car. roof racks, boot racks and tow bar racks are all useless to prevent theft if they want the bike. Extra locks might slow them down, or they'll just cut through the frame and sell the components. Its a jungle out there, but paranoia will keep your bike safe!

You can buy ID tags that drop inside the seat tube and are only removable by cutting open the frame. The tag will id the bike but it won't broadcast were it is. Labels can be attached to the bike declaring "ID Tag Inside" which may inhibit a theft. In the unlikely event of the Police finding your bike and the even more unlikely event of them scanning the tag, you will get your bike back. (or the insurance company will!)

Spend money on not getting the bike stolen in the first place is my advice.

Get the bike insured as well.

The trouble with a tracker on a bike is its not a deterrent, advertise its there and they are easy to find and remove (seatpost or bars...), don't advertise its there and it has no deterrent value, add in that they are hopelessly poor and unreliable (from user reviews) and you're better off spending the money on more conventional security.
