Has anyone got the Varia radar paired with a Garmin head unit rather than the led light display, if so when used at night time and the screen is dark, does the screen automatically come on when a car is detected?

Ok, so just for future reference for anyone searching, no it doesn't, back light left on all the time for night riding at 10% solves the problem, although you can usually see lights from car headlights bouncing off trees/road signage at approx the same time as the variable picks it up.

You can also configure the head unit to give you an audible warning. Though having backlight on also means you can see the display as you ride which is probably useful.

unfortunately the audible warning is too quiet for my hearing especially this time of year with headwear/windnoise etc, shame there aint a way to increase volume :(
