For some serious hill climbing gears I'm thinking of putting MTB Crankset on my Trek Emonda SL.
Some have done it running 30/46 but I don't know the MTB range well and how they fit, axle dia/BB shell width etc....
help

They vary. Easy enough to find one that should fit.
Or just get a cassette with lower gears and a longer mech.I don't do smileys.

I've got Ultegra 6800 group compact med cage with 11-40, road link and new chain as short as it'll go big big
problem I'm finding is when on the big ring and at the smaller end of the cassette when stopping pedalling the top line of the chain slaps the chain stay (pro carbon protector fitted) I think the extra mass of the 40 cassette wants to keep it spinning just enough time to cause this problem. The derailleur isn't very old so the spring should be ok0
