Has anyone flown recently with BA and a bike box Alan/Scicon? Think I can keep within the weight limit but size limit states 190 x 75 x 65 cm. the 75 is the issue as both above boxes come in around 95. Grateful for any feedback.

I'd email them and ask. Recently contacted them re hand luggage and items that may be considered heavy and sharp and they replied super quick. They have a specific email address that's quite easy to find on their website.

i've done a couple of trips on ba with bikeboxalan this year, had no issue at all

btw the 75cm limit is not applicable to bikes, it's explained on this page in the 'bikes' section...

I travelled to Italy last year with BA using the Scion. No problem whatsoever.
  • I took a dhb box to Denver and back on BA this summer. It was 10cm taller than the BA limit. They didn’t look at it - just went straight to the oversize bag drop at each end. I had let them know about taking a bike in advance, as their booking site says.

I had a problem with a Bike Box Alan coming back from Italy.
Too big to fit through the X-ray scanner at the smaller regional airport and had to open the box and have it inspected and swabbed. I suspect there wasn't an oversized baggage as it was a small terminal.
No problems at all at heathrow flying out.

the machines at ace were too narrow for bike boxes, they used to put a crate under bike boxes so that they went through diagonally instead of flat

  • No probs with BBA on BA but you need to phone them and advise that you are taking a bike.

Taken my BBA many times with BA over the last few years, never an issue. Hire car at the over end you do need to think about though....
  • I flew 7 years ago with a BBA & BA. No problems.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
