Rockshox SID RL Damper Confusion

Hi Guys,

I've just bought some Rockshox SID RL's (2017) that have the gubbins on top of the damper for a remote lockout.

My understanding was that if I removed the gubbins for the remote, I could fit a normal blue knob instead.

When I fitted a blue knob, it works the opposite way as the damper is "spring loaded" in the open position.

I've read that I can remove the spring - is that the case?

It doesn't seem to lockout either ???

My understanding was that if there was a padlock symbol on the gubbins, then it would, well, lockout, rather than just stiffen up.

What's going on guys?

Thanks.

    Yes you remove the spring.

No your understanding is wrong, they don’t ‘lock’ they just significantly increase the damping. Also check you have enough fluid, the base of the damper should be at least 10mm into the fluid at full extension.

    Hi,

I know the lockout is actually just very firm damping - some top caps don't show the padlock though, and those only go "firmer", the ones with the padlock symbol on them always go significantly firmer than the ones without the padlock symbol.

The forks are brand new so I'd hope the oil was right, but might check it anyway.

    Thanks.
