Hi, I'm heading down to a hotel near Gloucester and I'm looking for some route suggestions.

The address of where I'm based is:

Hatherley Manor Spa and Hotel,
Down Hatherley Lane
Down Hatherley
Gloucester
GL2 9QA

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 2-3 hour road ride?

Thanks,

Graeme

    Hi

Yes, you are spoilt for choice from there.

Northwards through Tewkesbury, Upton St Leanords and Ledbury will take you to the Malvern Hills - climb British Camp for a coffee stop.

Westwards will take you out to the Forest of Dean for some great scenery and lumpy roads.

Southwards you can climb Birdlip Hill via Witcombe and head to the Stroud Valleys via Cranham Woods and Painswick, over to Nailsworth to climb the z-bended 'ladder'.

Go east through Cheltenham to Cleeve Hill, maybe attempt the infamous Buschcombe Lane from Woodmancote and then head towards Evesham.

Are you there over a weekend? Gloucester City Cycling Club leave from the city centre every Sunday at 0900 hrs and run a number of rides to suit most levels. Visitors welcome.

  • Agree with all those suggestions. South to the Stroud Valleys via Birdlip is probably the nicest and uses less busy roads. Birdlip climb is a steep one mind!
