Hi planning a trip out to ride up the Stelvio pass next July, does has anyone have any recommendations where to stay and other rides nearby. Looks like Bormio may be a good base out for four days riding.

I've stayed here - great services for cyclists - laundry - bike room - tools - pumps - washers -

    Hotel La Genzianella https://www.genzianella.com/en/

July should be good. We went in May and the other side of the Stelvio was blocked by avalanche. Take a lot of kit just in case.

If you are looking for cheap accommodation, Camping Cima Piazzi about 4km out of Bormio is popular with cyclists hiring caravans. Nice bar, fantastic restaurant and amazing take-away pizzas there too, as well as showers and swimming pool. We stayed in our campervan a couple of times.

  • Bormio is the perfect base for Stelvio and the hotel Genzianella is the better option. High quality bike room, great food and we've stayed there for a fair few years now during our Ultimate Italian Alps trips .https://www.colconquerors.com/italy-stelvio-gavia-mortirolo-high-altitude-cycling/

The weather in July is as per one of the other replies usually good but as always the mountains can change quickly. There's an app for your phone called Meteo Suisse that covers the Bormio area as it's so close to the Swiss border, it's proved to be very reliable over the years. If there's anything you need help with just let me know.
