Hello. Due to a shoulder injury I need to isolate my arms from the terrible roads as much as possible, hence I have decided to buy a MTB for mainly road use, with some light off-road . Was tempted by a hybrid with suspension, but all the ones I can find (Giant Roam / Specialized Crosstrail) don't seem to have advantages over MTBs.

What I am looking for:
- Lightweight
- Tubeless ready wheels. Would stick road tyres on them. and run at low pressure
- Less aggressive riding position (to take weight off front)
- Prefer cheap groupsets, find 1x11 overly expensive to replace when you fuck a derailleur etc. Maybe even single speed
- 2nd hand possibly.

Boardman MHT ( https://www.boardmanbikes.com/gb_en/pro ... t-8.9.html ).
Trek X-Caliber ( https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bike ... 8/p/21577/ )

These are the best options I can find, don't particularly match my criteria. Would maybe get better value doing a custom build? Would being able to use a shorter travel suspension fork (60mm is what they have on most hybrids) be beneficial?

Back in the mid noughties I had problems with my back and didn't want the stretched out position of many bikes. Like you, I wanted to be a bit more upright. I found what I wanted with the Trek Navigator. Sadly they don't make them any more, but so that you can see what I mean, here is a used one on eBay.

I believe that it was a cross between a cruiser bike and comfort bikes. The tyres were wide for a road bike at 1.95" but had a smooth centre tread with nobblies on the outside, so it would grip on corners or softer ground. The fork travel was 50mm,but I seldom took full advantage of it. The bike was a joy to ride and I just used to set off with no particular place to go and see where I ended up. The bike helped me to recover and I finally bought a proper MTB in 2008.

If you like the look of them, try the Navigator 2.0, like this:

Hmm, that one also appears to be unavailable, but you can see the spec in more detail.

I'm sorry that the only bike I can think of is no longer available, but at least you now have a picture in your mind. Maybe the eBay one for £89 may be worth a punt.

Can you quantify lightweight and give an idea of budget.
