Where to ride in NYC, Queens & Long Island

I am new to riding and prefer not to ride in traffic. In Brooklyn I like Prospect Park and Long Island I do Jones Beach Bike Path. I live in LI and I am looking for paths that with no traffic. I tried a few other paths but they were narrow and not well suited for riders. Where to the serious ride go to ? Can anyone recommend any paths?

    Have a look on ridewithgps for rides that start near you in nyc and select bike path as road type.

    Lot of bike paths are not good for serious (faster)riding as lot of slower riders on them (which is fair enough as that’s what they’re for)

    Ps: also join a local group ride prob the best idea, riding in a group is safer, and you’ll learn a lot re: best local rides
